A HAPPY SOCIAL.

WESLEY TENNIS CLUB.

Anyone who looked in or passed by the Century Hall last night would have seen and heard sounds of mirth and joy, the reason being that the young people of the Methodist Church, with their friends, were having “a night out,”

The Wesley Tennis Club held a very successful social in aid of their club. There was a large attendance and the evening passed all too quickly, with games and competitions. The peanut race caused much amusement. A lively Scotchman ate more than his share of nuts and walked away with the competition knife in his pocket. The parcel competition was very funny, especially when the young man had to present the parcel "to the lady who used the powder puff last, or the young lady had to pass it on to ‘‘the boy who saw her home last night.” Songs were rendered by Miss Chalk, a pianoforte duet by Misses Hudson and Hutton, and a recitation by Miss Nancy Andrew.

A very tempting supper was served, which all enjoyed. Rev. J. D. McArthur presided over the gathering, and the secretary (Miss E. Parsons) and committee are to be congratulated on the very successful arrangements. The Tennis Club will open its season on October Bth, when competition games will be played with St. Andrew’s Club. Quite a number of men players have joined the Wesley Club this year.
