BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY.

WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT DOES. The British and Foreign Bible Society is one the great missionary societies in the world, with headquarters in London, under an interdenominational committee of control, consisting of 3(i members, six of whom are foreigners resident in London; together with over 10,000 auxiliaries and branches throughout the world. Its aim is to bring the Bible, without note or comment, within the reach of all peoples in all languages. It is engaged in the 'work of translating, revising, printing! publishing and circulating prod’s Word inwall parts of the world.

It supplies Sunday Schools, Bible Classes, missions, orphanages, prisons, hospitals, etc., in the Home lands, and missionary societies in foreign lands, all irrespective of denomination, with Scriptures, in most cases at less than cost, in at least 570 languages.

It helps the blind by providing the, Bible Scriptures in 08 languages at about one-fifth of cost price. It circulated last year 8,540,001 copies of the. Scriptures, 5,000,000 of which were placed by its own colporteurs. It is r maintained by sales, contributions and legacies. It helped New Zealand last year by circulating and distributing the Scriptures as required in English and 18 other languages. It revised and reprinted the Maori Bible. It has been the Avarm advocate for a bigger and better place for the Bible in New Zealand.

What remains to be done? Further languages to bo translated, revisions to be, carried out, and cheap Scriptures brought within the reach of thousands who have not yet heard the Gospel. Latest statistics show there are in the world 234 million odd Moslems, and of these over 103 million are under British rule.
