FINE AMOUNTS TO ONE DAY'S PROFIT.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Gladys Florence Mackrell, a married woman, aged 32, pleaded guilty to carrying on business as a bookmaker on Ellerslie racecourse. The .Chief-Detec-tive stated that accused had been in. business as a bookmaker for eighteen months and yesterday she was seen betting with women. She went to the course with five guineas and just prior to the sixth race she had £3O 9s 6d in her handbag. She had women scouting for her and paid them well. She had a husband and two children. The husband had been out of work, ,but was now employed. Mr E. Hunt, S.M., fined accused £25.
