HORRIBLE DISCOVERY.

CHILDREN’S BONES BENEATH A HOUSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A gruesome discovery was made last night in a house in Vauxhall Road, Devonport, occupied by Mrs Hayson, a widow. Her son, aged 16, was hunting with, a lighted candle, under the house, for some bicycle parts, when he discovered in a recess in the foundations of the chimney the skeleton of a child, apparently two to three years old, in the brickwork.

An investigation by an elder brother showed that the skull was detached from the body, and was lying on one side, together with the leg of another skeleton.

Mrs Hayson had lived in the house about twelve months. Her daughter had, on several occasions, endeavoured to locate an offensive smell, which, however, had not been noticed recently-
