CHINAMAN'S CONDUCT.

WOMEN FRIGHTENED IN LEVTN. CASE FOR MEDICAL OBSERVATION. A Chinaman from Ohau eauaed a sensation yesterday by calling at two residences in Levin and frightening the women occupants. Owing to a complaint being received, he was taken in charge by the Rev R. Crocket and handed over to the police. It is stated that the Chinaman was not regarded as normal by his countrymen at Ohau, as, instead of working, he spent a great portion of his time in sleep, and frequently refused to eat, sometimes going as long as a week without food. The sequel to yesterday's happenings was heard at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr T. Brown, J.P., this moining, when Yum Gee, aged 32, was charged with having assaulted a female at Levin,. ,

Afterwards, in Mako Mako Road he caught hold of a girl, who screamed and got away from him. His actions seemed to be those of a person who was not in his right mind. Witness made inquiries from Ohau and it appeared that the accused had been living with his father fo,r a year or two, had done no work, and had been peculiar in his mannen. The constable suggested that Gee be remanded until Thursday next, in order that he might be placed under medical observation at the Wellington gaol in the meantime. A remand was granted accordingly.
