DRAGGED FROM DEATH’S JAWS
CONSTABLE SAVES POST OFFICE MESSENGER. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. IS. Prompt action by Constable John McCormick on point duty at the Bank corner, the busiest traffic intersection in Christchurch, saved W. < h Witholl. post office messenger, from beingmangled under, tile wheels of a passing tramcar. The incident occurred and veas over in a flash. The tramcar with a trailer attached was passing at. slow speed when WitheH, who apparently had not noticed the trailer, rode his bicycle into it, his legs being spread over the lines in front of the trailer. The constable Jumped to the spot, seized the boy and dragged him literally from under the tram. The boy's nose was broken, his face bruised and bleeding - , and he sustained concussion.
