WOMEN JUSTICES.
FIRST LIST OF APPOINTMENTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. - The Minister of Justice (the Hon. F. J. Rolleston) stated to-day that the following women had been appointed Justices of the Peace under the Act passed last session:—Blanche E. Carancan, Onclmnga; Annie J. Corib s, Wellington; Nora S. Dick, Dunedin; Nellie E. Ferner, Auckland; Annie I. Fraer, Christchurch; Janet Fraser, Wellington; Annie E. Herbert, Christchurch; Sarah E. Jackson, Auckland; Cybde E. Kirk, Wellington; Edith F. C. Leech, Dunedin; Elizabeth R. McCombs, Sumner; Annie Ale Vicar, Wellington; Hilda M. Northcroft, Auckland; Alary Raymond, Timaru; Eulalie E. Roberts,’ Dunedin; Eveline A. AI. Roberts, Christchurch; Jane E. Runciman, Dunedin; Elizabeth B. Taylor, Christchurch. The Alinister said it was decided to confine the first appointments to women already servino- as associate members of the Children’s Court and to those who held prominent positions in the community / either on local bodies or in women’s or social organisations. A further list will be gazetted after the New Year. .
