A Sydney cable reports the death df Dr. Thos. Porter, pastor of the Baptist Church; aged 88.. • Mr P. W. Goldsmith, J.P., Levin, has been authorised to exercise jurisdiction in the Children’s Court at Levin, and Mr T. O’Rouke has been given similar authority for Otaki. Mr H. J. Pearse, postmaster at Putaruru, has' been appointed postmaster at Otaki. He will be an acquisition to musical circles, having been bandmaster at Karangahake and Thames and having organised, the Putaruru Brass Band. Mr Pearse was also for some time in charge of the Territorials at Thames.
