THE CHINES SITUATION
CANTONESE ADVANCE REPORTED. (Received Thursday. T p.m.) PEKIN, Dec. 15. There have been many rumours that the Cantonese, after occupying virtually the whole of Fukien, are advancing on Hangchow and Chekiang which have declared • their independence from Sun Chuan-fang. It is now reported that Hangchow has fallen to the Cantonese. The Shanghai Hangchow railway is cut at Linping. 13 miles north-east of Hangchow, presumably to the Chekiang soldiers, though another report states that Sun Chuan-fang troops cut the line near Sungkiang, over 20 miles south-west of Shanghai, and are making preparations for a stand there against the Cantonese advance on Shanghai.
