AMUSEMENT TAX.
TIME FOR TOTAL ABOLISHMENT. DEPUTATION OF SPORTS BODIES WELLINGTON, Last Night. Total abolition of th<? amusement tax, so far as sports bodies were concerned, was sought by a deputation, which waited on the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance (Mr. Nosworthy) today. The deputation urged that the time had now arrived, if the finances would permit, of total exemption, as had already been done quite properly in regard to A. and P. Associations and Swimming Associations. Mr. Nosworthy said it would cost £60,000 to abolish the tax altogether and thought it should be allowed to stand over for this year. Mr. Coates said he would look into the matter with the Minister of Finance and fnd out what the actual cost would be. He agreed that none of the bodies affected was very prosperous.
