RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.

—♦ LEVIN BRANCH MEETS. At Monday night’s meeting of the Levin R.S.A. Committee, a letter was read from a returned man, voicing liis appreciation of the material sympathy extended to him in the form of monetary assistance, at a time when hard iuck had passed his way, and it was pleasing to And-that the •‘Digger” spirit was not dead, as proved by instances of this description. Several pensions questions were dealt with, one 'being that of a man whose economic pension, of 15s a week, was cancelled because lie had received a rise of 10s a week from his employer. The local branch had written to the general secretary of the New 1 Zealand R.S.A., making a strong representation that this man’s pension should still be, continued, and that the action of the Department in cancelling this particular pension would be likely to cause employers to fight shy of employing disabled returned men, in that it might discourage men irom attempting to’improve their position in life and giving of their best. Needless to say, the action of the Department brought down some caustic comments at Monday night’s meeting. Tire secretary (Mr J. Goodwin) stated that, after paying all expenses in connection with Poppy Day, the 1 ’oppy Fund showed a credit balance of approximately £73—a highly satisfactory condition. Sir has. Allen, High Commissioner for New Zealand in Loudon, has been requested to collect a complete setol photographs of all New Zealand Wai Memorials, for lodgment in the Imperial War Museum at South Kensington, London. In connection with tins' project the New Zealand R.S.A., in co-operation with the Department (! f internal Affairs, asked the local branch of the R.S.A. to forward (1) The name of the sculptor; (2) A copy of the inscriptions, etc., and (3) A photograph of the district memorial Insofar as the Levin Association is concerned, this information has been supplied, and the secretary mentioned at the meeting on Monday that the Association was indebted to Mr 1. Brown for a very fine photograph ol the local memorial, taken by Mr W. Thorley It was remarked that some of the lettering on the memorial required attention as already it was becoming indistinct. , . , U’cmints passed for payment totalled £39 3s 7d. During the course o. the. meeting the secretary remarked Hint die ! evin Association was comparatively speaking, one of the strongest and most financial of any m the Dominion.
