FOXTON RACING CLUB.

j The following is the annual report Of the abovV Club, ■ presented at the meeting on Friday last:— “ Your committee have pleasure in presenting the report and balancesheet for the period ending 30th June, 'IdSl/hnd which shows the Club to be in a thoroughly satisfactory position. The race meeting iu January last was ond of the most enjoyable and successful yet held by the Club. Stakes, to the amount of £3,700 were given for the two days (an increase of £I,OOO on the previous year), and, favoured by .delightful weather, everything# went off most successfully. The totalisator turnover reached £68,731, the previous year being £57,259. The nominations, privileges, gates, etc., all showed a marked increase. The Racing Commission visited Foxton in December last, and it was pointed out that the racing track was not 66 feet wide, as required, in places. Immediately after the race meeting this work was put ip hand, and is now in progress of completion. As passed by jcesolution at the last annual meetingjr the Club has been “Incorporated under the Act of 19Q8, ’’■ and, hew rules have been drawn up and adopted. As per Rule 22, the retiring stewards, Messrs J. V. Burr, E. Bryant and W. Petrie are eligible for re-election. Owing to probably leaving the district, Mr Petrie has decided not to stand for re-election, and the following nominations have been received: —Messrs J. V. Burr, E. Bryant, Earl Bryant, W. Neylon, C. A. Pearson, A. N. Smith, P. D. Whibley. In conclusion, your stewards desire to congratulate members on the satisfactory position of the Club, and further, to acknowledge and place .on record the complimentary Press notices and encomiums passed by visitors as to the excellent appointments for the convenience of the public, and the pleasant surroundings. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr F. llobinson (re-elected); president, Mr J. E. Whyte (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs Dr. Mandl, W. E, Barber, 0. and C. Robinson (re-elected); treasurer, Mr E. Bryant. (As Mr Bryant was nominated as a steward, it was decided that his position as treasurer would obviate his election as a steward, and give him the same privileges, and make the number of stewards nine exclusive of the treasurer. His ■ nomination for a steward was withdrawn). Judge, Mr J, M. Cameron (re-elected); handicapper, Mr J. E. Henrys' (re-elected); starter, Mr. Angus Keith (re-elected); clerk of scales, Mr J. E. Burr (re-elect-ed); time-keeper, Mr Alf. Mahon (reelected) ; auditor, Mr D. R. Ogilvie. There were six for three stewards, namely, Messrs Burr, Earl Bryant, W. Neylon, C. Pearson, A. N. Smith, and F. D. Whibley. The result of the ballot was:—C. Pearson 54, Burr 53, W, Neylon 45, F. D. Whibley 36, Earl Bryant 28, A. N. Smith 19, Messrs Pearson, Burr and Neylon were declared elected. GRANT TO JIBE BRIGADE. On the motion of Mr Whibley, seconded by Mr Perreau, it was resolved to grant a donation of 10 guineas to the Foxton Fire Brigade, provided there is nothing in, the regulations to preclude same. ■ , NOTES. Horses fedi upon preserved seaweed, according to experiments made by the French . Army Veterinary Service, put on weight, remain very lively, and are capable of as much work as horses fed ,oa oats. Four previous winners of the C J.C. National Steeples. in. Master Strowan, Waimai, Coalition, and Lochella have been paid up for this year’s event. . It is reported that A, MeAulay will again train for Mr H. W. Brown at Trentham. Two well-known figures in the New South Wales racing world in W. Lillyman and W. King, were recently disqualified by the A. J.C. Committee, the former for five years and the latter for two. Improper practices is the only reason given. , H. Goldfinch, will leave for Sydney after the Grand National meeting, to ride Duo in his Australian, engagements. Goldfinch has been engaged to do all .Mr W. F. Desha’s riding next season, when the weights suit.
