The Australians began a return match at Liverpool to-day with Lancashire.

The latter only made a hundred— Hallows 37, Kenyon 24, Marriott 13. Bowling: MacDonald .eight for 65, Macartney two for 13, Armstrong none for 13.

Rain fell overnight and during the morning, and the ground was sloppy at the start. Play was delayed. Makepeace and Hallows opened for Lancashire. Both were careful, and scoring was slow. Makepeace lost his wicket leg before to MacDonald when the total was 28. Hallows was caught and bowled by MacDonald. He played a useful but somewhat lucky Innings.
