MAKEUUA ANb SHANNON ROADS UNDER WATER.

The continuous rain for the last three or four days has had its effect on the condition of the district rivers, and the Manawatu is again in heavy i flood, and last night was only six inches below the highest point reached hy the flood in December last. The Makerua country is again under water, and the road in front of the big mill, also the low-lying portion of the road between Shan: 0:1 and the Manawatu bridge on the Shan-non-Foxton road. So far no serious damage has )been reported to the County Council, but with- the continuation of the rain today, it is expected that there will be a further, rise in the flooded areas. ■ The Manawatu rose steadily this morning, and a good deal of country in the Wirokino district is covered. Motor traffic managed to get through from Foxton early this morning, but at noon to-day there was nearly three • feet of water on the road, which blocked the passage of motors. The river was still rising. The Avater has encroached on a considerable area of the adjoining country. There is reported to be over four feet of water' on the Shannon-Foxton road to-day. The rivers in the lower part of fbo county are in flood, but the roads are clear.

ROUGH WEATHER CONTINUES.

’ The indications are lor Avesteiiy winds and heavy gale, backing by west to south. Stormy Aveather may be expected,, with heavy rain. Rivers flooded. The weather will probably become very cold. The' barometer has a falling tendency, but rising alter about 20 hours from 9 a.m. to-day.
