Antarctic Exploration.

LECTURE BY MR LEIGH HUNT.

Mi" Leigh Hunt, of Wellington, will give two lectures in Levin on Wodjuesday that should be well worth crowded houses. In the afternoon ho will speak to the school children on Captain Soott's last voyage, and in the evening a public lecture, will be given on "Town Planning." Recently Mr Leigh Hunt gave his lecture on Captain Scott's last expedition to the pupils or the Wellington Technical High School. The director Mr, J. H. Howell, intro-

duoed the lecturer as one of the most public-spirited citizens of Wellington, keenly interested in the material and, moral progress of the community. As a stimulus to high endeavour, Mr Leigh Hunt had ' secured a set of slides from the original photographs of Mr Poynting, official photographer to Captain Scott's expedition, and was very generously giving his time to the recital of its story. The lecturer gave a brief account of Arctic and Antarctic exploration from the earliest times; he described the extraordinary preparations made by Captain Scott andj then accompanied the series of beautiful slides by a most interesting narrative, from the time of the departure from Lyttelton to its tragic close, eleven miles from One Ton Camp. When the photograph of the cairn that marked the last resting place of Captain Scott and his brave companions was placed on the screen the students stood in honour of their memory. At the close of the lecture Mr Leigh Hunt was warmly applauded.
