Will Crooks' Retirement

APPRECIATION OF HIS SERVICES. (Received This Day, 8.45 a.m.) London, February 12. • The King, in a letter to Will Crooks, expressed sympathy with him in his illness, and regretted his retirement from Parliament. Further evidence of Mr Crooks' popularity is shown by an appeal headiied by Messrs. Balfour, Asquith and Lloyd George, to provide a fund to endow him during his declining yeara. The Rt. Hon. Will Crooks is now <3B years of age. A destitute boy, he was brought up in a Poor Law institution, but ,by native ability and industry, became a leader of Labour and Mayor of Poplar> the parish responsible for his up-bringing. As labour M.P. for Woolwich, he has brought a moderate influence to bear on the policy of the party, and has gained the respect of all classes of political opinion.
