HOROWHJENUA ANJ> RANGITIKFI DRAW. llio first rep. match of the season was played at ilarton on (Saturday between tho Rangitikei and Hoiwhonua teams. The day was perfect, but, tho ground was very heavy. Tho attendance of the public was a record. A utrenuous game resulted in a draw, tne scores being 3 points oacli. '

Rangitikei kicked off with tho wind in their favour, and after an interchange of kicks play settled on tho

From tho drop out, Horowhcnua attacked, but the good work was nullified by the safe play of tlio opposing backs. Play then aiul'ted to the Horowhcnua end, Paramti and Payne boirg instrumental ill doing so. Several serums wer© then given on the line, Rangitikei failing to get a scoring chauce hy Horowhcnua hooking the ball. Offside play gave Rangitikei a chanco at goal, but tho attempt was a poor one. From this point to the half-way spell was more even, but apart from momentary advantages, neither sido looked dangerous, and the interval was called without score.

Horowhenua attacked strongly on resuming, Jacob, Moynilian and I>alzoll being prominent, but off-side play gave Rangitikei relief. From tile throw-out Cameron and Botell led a iK-awtifnl rush into Horowhenua territory, which provd irresistible, and Rangitikei sweeping over allowed I'oyne to store between llie posts, l'ayno took the kick, but failed to convert. Rangitikei 3, Horowhenua I). From the drop out, Rangitikei attacked again, and Horowhenua was lucky in averting a further score, Ferri; forcing down. On resuming, Rangitikei continued lo attack, and off-side play gave them another chance, l'araniti again missing. Marshall cleared nicely, and sent out at half-way. The Horowhenua. forwards now took a band, and by dint of hard work carried play to tlio Rangitikei linu, where over-anxiousncss spoiled, several good chances of scoring. Oif-side play by a Rangitikei forward gave Horowhenua a shot :»t goal, and 1/es. McDonald was successful in getting the ball over. Rangitikei 3, Hurowhcuua 3. The Horowhenua backs rot urn cd kick-off well into Rangitikei territory, where Cameron cleared with a fine run up the line. Kangitikei theu set up another strong attack, but Marshall, Hannon and Fold proved 100 good ami play wan once more shifted to the other end, where Jacob marked a hig'punt in a good position, but the effct .at goal was not a success. From then onward Kangitikei maintained an incessant attack witn play on tho Horowhenua line, good defensive work, in which Han nan was very prominent, staving off any further score, and the whistle bounded wim the score 3 M. .>ir Hunt was reforoe.
