"ECONOMICS CLASS TO BE FORMED The adjourned annual meeting of the Levin branch of the AVorkers' Educational Association was held last evening in the Borough Council Chambers when tho chair was occupied by Air D. \Y. Matheson. Apologies were received from -Rev. J. H. Haslam, Messrs G. M. Henderson, C. F. Rockel and B. Bear for non-attendance. Considerable discussion took place on the possibility of forming a successful class or classes this year, and it was decided to make a big effort to concentrate on one class in economics, lit being ■considered that under a capable tutor a class of over 20 students could be successfully carried yti A letter was read from Mr Moses Ayrton agreeing to accept the post of tutor if such a class were formed. Mr Ayrton lias been one of tho Victoria College W.E.A. lecturers 'on this subject for a number of years and is an acknowledged autharity. At present he is lecturer to 'both the Palmerston and Feilding branches.

It was decided to appoint Mr Avrton to the position and to ask him also to deliver an inaugural public lecture next Ffidav evening on a subject to be chosen by himself.

The following officers were elected : President, Mr D. W. Matheson; secretary. Mr R. McAllister; treasurer, Mr A. Broome; committee. Dr. R. Brvson, Messrs C. 1. Harkness, C. Killeen, R. H. Billens, R. .Smith, Connor, Bell, -J. "Harvey, K. Aitken, B. Bear and officers ox officio.

Sub-committees were appointed to arrange the inaugural lecture and to canvas? for members for the economies class, for which a dozen names are in alreadv.

It was decided unanimously to give all returned soldiers honorary membership of the Association and to invite their co-operation in the classes. Before the meeting closed, ill' Harkness, on behalf of those present, congratulated Mr Matheson on his elevation to- the Mayoralty and wished him every success in his new office.
