— sharp. ~ ANNUAL MEETING ' LEVIIX BOWLING OLUB. There was a good attendance laab night at the annual general meeting of Levin Bowling Club. iilr O. H. Pyikfe, clulb preeidtenit, was |itn tihe chair. The report showed that the club had liad a most enjoyable season, and .that a .tournament held for benefit of patriotic itunds had yielded a substantial net amourut. Mr Pylk© 'commented on ithe bat- .; ancessheet as being highly satisfiao- - tory, but he made the point thait. /evidently ttlhe /entrance . fees ; in club competition® had Ibeen too • low, as the expenses were in excess of receipts. He also commented that he would like to see the cluib beoome si^lf-supporting; last year .the share- ' holders an the green had had to find £14 odd to even the finances. ' Medals won last year were' presented as follows:—
Handicap singles.—Mr D. Porfceous; second prize, Mr J. Melntyre. (Uhampion singles.—Mr W. Ingram; second prize, Mr Mclntyre. Pairs.—Messrs Kirk and Holdaway. .Kinks maitcih.—Messrs ©uirrife, Suihan, lieading and Lancaster. A special prize was given to Mr W. Thomson (subscribed for by rfahe several rinks) in recognition of his services as emergency man on several occasions. Tli© election of officers resulted as follows: President,, Mr E. S. Lancaster ; vice-president, Mr D. Porteous; secretary, Mr J. Mclntyra (reelected) ; dielegate to CVlanawatu ■Centre, Mi 1 Lankinj tournament and 'match committee, Messrs McXntyrc? Porteous, and Young j green committee, Messrs Lancaster, Pyke and Young.
The yearly subjscripffion was, fixed ■aic £2 10s, reducible to £2 2a of paid before the 31st December, 1917. Hie "Croquet Club subscription wlas fixed at dBl Is ; honorary members 6b. Aiften fujll discussion, "the opemiiinig day was j fixed for Labor Day (the third Wednesday in October). Jfow members were elected las follows; .Messrs EC. Qiannings, E. iNlash, L. G. McDonald, W. Tadjt. lit w&s resolved that the club put in a challenge forthwith,' for ifche Dixon Gup (now held in Feilding). The maitter of appointing .a Caretaker w.as left in the hands of the ground committee. Trophies for competition were promised by Messrs E. S. Lancaster, D. Wi. Matheeon, Porteous, C. S. Pyke, •M. Sufaan. Mr J. Mclntyie intimated that he would donate liis 'last year's honorarium (£5) for providing two prizes for a pairs competition.
