9 —. The ordinary monthly meeting oi the Horowhenua County Council was held in the borough chambers on Saturday. Councillor G. A. iMonk, chairman, presided, and there were present: Councillors Ct. 'X. .Stephenson, F. AV. Venn, F. J. Ryder, x£. Freeman, S. A.. Broa-dibelt, F. Retter, and G. Cat!ey. Councillor Kebbell was granted leave |of absence. B>. No action was taken in connection with the resolution forwarded by the Patea County Council, it being considered that it was a matter for the Government to deal with. The engineer and Councillor Oatley wore given power to act in connection with J. Fielding's ('Te Horo) complication for permission to erect a wire fence in front of his residence. Herdman and Kirkcaldie, solicitors, of Wellington, asked that a road through section 46, "Waihoangi, part section 4a, proclaimed in 18$?; he vesten in Mr G. H. Uingclon, the owner of the land in question, in exchange for another road through the same property. No action was taken. The council directed that the necessary attention be paid to V. I). It was pointed out that they could not close the pit and therefore no action was taken. The council agreed to purchase for 10s, the gate offered; to it by P. J. Taylor, of Otaki. The councillors for the Te Horo riding and the engineer were given authority to act, after inspection of the site, in regard to the request of several Tc Horo residents that the council put in a culvert and leads across a road and connect up two drains i® the vicinity. The engineer's report was adopted. The oountiy ranger reported that the roads were fairly clear of stock. The driving fees collected were: Te Horo 10s; Otaki, 10s; Wirokino lis; and Tokomaru 10s. The engineer was authorised 'to call for tenders for fencing the Tararua road extension as soon a 6 the loan is granted and the tenders will he dealt with by the members of the riding.

Councillor Broaclbelt moved and Councillor Refrter seconded: "That the engineer be written! to protecting against the erection of the telephone line on the western side of the county road from Beach road to Builer road, until the footpath is formed which the ■council proposes to undertake at an early date, and also that it protests against the action of the telegraiph engineer in allowing the mutilation of the tress in Shannon. The motion wan carried, Councillor Stephenson, animadverted strongly on the action of the department in cutting, in the manner they did, the trees at Shannon.
