Following is a precis of tlie correspondlence received: Tli© top end of the Knhinau road, Shannon, according to a communication received from R. M. Langc, is ■ again, in a. bad state, and he has iuskckl that the council instruct its roadman to clear out tho water-tables. The engineer reported that the road was boing metalled and tlie watertables had been attended to. Hi:< Fatea County Council recently passed tlie following resolution: "That this council strongly condemns the present system of including in the reinforcement drafts men of enemy parentage on either maternal or paternal sidics, and further urges that no distinction *or exemption be made to this principle on the part oi men of enemy parentage as above stated, to serve in our reinforcements drafts or in any capan-jity in our defence system." A ! copy of this resolution reached the ! local councillors to-day with a request ' tlint they pass a similar i'cholution if they thought fit. J. Fielding, of Te Horn, asked permission to re-erect a post and wire fence in front of liis house in Te Waeka. A request For a culvert across the road jnst the north side of the approach to his private property was received from W. D. Preston-Thomas, of Otaki railway. Tho Kairanga County Council drew t!io attention of the council to the

The k(*n demand for fine metal al Tokoniaru leads to much competitioi for its possefsioft between the contractor (ft. Southee) for metalling certain road in that district, and others. In h lefcttor to the council the contractoi stated that the position wa.s not fail to him. He was compelled to put fine metal on the roads, but as soon as a good patch was struck in the pit there was a rush by all enrts in the district for it, and it was carted away. These carts had narrow tyres (four inches) whiV.' ho had to use eight-inch tyres. He asked that the council close the pit to outsiders until the contract for metalling the roads was finished.

For some timo certain settlers at Te Horn have been divided over a question of drainage, the question at issue being who was to pay the cost. This lust ins been agreed upon - and the council was asked by those interested to clinch the matter 'b'v putting a culvert and leads across a. road to connecF the drainage system.

A gate for 10s was an offer placed before the council iby P. Jk. Taylor, of Otnki railway. Fie erected the gate nt the south end of Otaki bridge for keeping his stock in safe custody, and lie offered to leave it where it is for' the sum stated. Tf left in its present position it might prove tisefu> in assisting drovers to get stock on the approach to the bridge.
