_« - (Otaki Mail.; A discussion ensued at the dairyfarniers' meeting ut Otaki on Saturday night with .respect to the keeping qualities of milk, machine milked and hand-milked reepectively. It was stated that it was a common Belief that the machine milked fluid did not keep as well as that hand-milked, but one of the biggest local suppliers stated that ho had on one occasion supplied milk from machine-milked cons for severaf wee*™, and the Wellington vendor had not known the difference. George Riindle, arrested b.y Con stable Satherley on Saturday night, appealed before Messrs Carkeek and Bennett, J. V1 , ., this morning, charged with drunkenness. He was reported "to miTO been in a bad way when arroskd. The constable said he had reason to believe that accused canned drink to prohibited persons. Tt was further stated that Riindle had spent £l~> since morning. Defendant denied carrying liquor for those prohibited. The constable asked ;.lso that a prohibition order be issued. The Bench granted the order, and also inflicted a 20s fine. •Only about half-a-dozen Indies attended the annual meeting of the ! Otaki Ladies' Hockey Club, held' on j Friday night last, and the majority of tlio.se present were non-playing meinhers. It was decided to postpone Iho meeting indefinitely, the officers in the | meantime to endeavour to rouse a little more interest among the local girls. It would be a great pity to allow the cluh to die, after such a successful career, and it is Tioped that the girls of the town will interest themselves, and make a move towards resuscitating the club.
