CORRESPONDENCE

— 4 M)ur coirespondents' opinions aie their own ; the responsibility of editorial ones makes sufficient ballast for the editor's shoulders.l THE AVERAROA LAM) WALE. (To the Editor.) Sir.—ALy attention iias been drawn to an ai'tide appearing m a paper calling itself the Tararua Xtewsnet. of the 12th March, in which it states that the Government paid me (Mo per acre for IUO iteros of land. .Now, the paper is no tvery large, but it need not be made smaller bv publishing untruths and the Chamber of Commerce might find something more useful to do than manufacturing them. The land was sold considerably under £30 per acre, taking the value of buildings into account. .1 was under the impression that a Chamber of Commerce was for the purpose of trying to do some good for the district it represented, in the way of trying to get our idle lauds opened up. There is plenty for them to do in that direction, instead of being made a eatspaw for political purposes. I might state that the Government valuation for the said land is £11 2s per acre, and the Horowbenua County Council don't object to my paying rates on That amount.—Tours, etc., P. BAT?THOLO.MTCW. Weraroa. March 30, 1915.
