The Minister for Customs was interviewed to-day regarding export of produce from the dominion. He made the following further statement:— Stocks of brun held in the Dominion are under normal, but as bran deteriorates by keeping, permission has been given for a limited export, and applications will be considered week by week. Straw and eliaff are not prohibited from export; they can be exported without permission, but the Customs must be satisfied that the grain has Keen threshed out. The duty oil flour, wlieat, and Algerian oats (for seed purposes only) lins been suspended till the end of this year. OPIUM SMUGGLING. Wellington, This Day. A Chinese member of the crew of the steamer Knight Templar was lined £25 to-day for smuggling opium. The captain said the find would be paid. This is the fourth conviction of tihe kind since the Knight Templar arrived. OFFICIAL WAR CORRESPONDENT Wellington. This Day. Mr Malcolm Rose has been appointed official correspondent t<> the New Zealand expeditionary forces. KILLED. BY A FALL OF EARTH. Hawera, This Day. Aleiffhdor Seabvight Allison, a cingle man, aged 28. share-milker, was killed by a fall of earth on Tuesday afternoon while excavating in a gully. THE OAT MARKET AT A STANDSTILL. Christchurch. This Day. "We absolutely decline to touch oats until we get something more definite about the Government's intentions." remarked a prominent miller to-day. Inquiries among merchants and brokers show that business on the oat market has practically stopped, and all dealing was at a standstill, although a few , sales of Algerians are reported.
