It was reported hv a member of the Acclimatisation Society at its annual
meeting last night that people were
in the habit of going out in the - ranges, shooting down cattle, and
after taking off the hide, leaving the carcase to rot; in isome ease* the hides were not even removed. Tt was stated that this was illegal, as the cattle were protected, and it was also a sinful waste. These cattle were of use to survey parties, who depended] on them for their meat supplies. It
wan decided to draw the attention of
the Government to the matter, through the head Acclimatisation Society, ami hare tbi practice stopped.
