KEEP A PIG?

Sir.— I liikl just finished iny sivili the other evening when the Chronicle was handed' through ;i split in the fence. Spreading il out on the straw, I noticed in the report of the Borough Council's debate 011 the cost of foodsi nil's that Councillor Prouse stated that the fanner at pie-sent had to pay ;> lot more for food fur my relations and myself, and he has to sell us for id per lb. and he went on to ask did we not make cheap meat at the above price? Cheap to the consumer, but dear to the fanner! in the next breath he advised everyone to keep one of us and save money. If, as it is to be inferred from Councillor Prouse'es statement, that it is costing so much to keej) iits now that the farmer is losing, why. advise others to keep us, and save money? T <lo not understand. Does anvone else?—l am. etc., OIHTN'TER.
