TI.MAUU MARKETS. I lie past has been a quiet week on the local grain and produce markets so far as actual sales are concerned, but buyers >are showing a keen desire to get- into touch with thosewho will have grain to sell in a week or two. Harvest, is now well started. and it will not be long before new grain is on the, market. Old wheat is selling at up to 3s 7d delivered Timarn, for prime milling. Velvet being most on demand. Tf the present broken weather continues there will be comparatively little threshing from tho stonk, and if the grain lias to bo stacked it is conI sidered that the price of oldwheat j will go up. .Fowl wheat is in demand at prices about equal to those ruling lor milling wheat. For new wheat buyers arc offering 3s 2Jd to 2,s 3d, dedivered Timaru, delivery trt !m given as soon as the gnain is fit to thresh. The majority of tlie grower, however, are holding for #i higher price. There is a good demand for oats and the crop is now coming in rapidly. Some farmers on tho lighter lands have already cut, threshed and ■sold, and on the heavy land oats «re now to be seen in stock. Some have been sold at 2,s on trucks, but the general price; is Is lOd to Is lid ori trucks. Oatshcaf chaff is not of prime quality owing to the excessive wet, and sales made have been on tho basis of £2 10s por ton delivered. Potatoes are coming to hand freely, .and as >a result values vaJuos havo gone down with a run. There pro-' mise.s to he an abundant supply. Some tons have been bought this week for (shipment to Wellington at £1 10s per ton.
