Levin Egg Circle.

* THE ANNUAL MEETING. Levin Egg Circle held its annual general meeting last night, Mr H. Leger presiding. The balance-sheet s,howed that J-'(>72 13s lOd had been paid out during the twelve months, and after meeting all incidental expenses of management, collection, etc., there was a satisfactory credit balance shown. The secretary (Mr T. B. Hal!) then read THE ANNUAL BEBOBT. which was in the following terms:— It is with considerable pleasure that your committee presents to the members i[s first report and balance sheet. The Circle was started with a small niend>orship of active members, only four of your memobrs participator!: in the first consignment of eg us. Operations have now been carried on for about eighteen months. At first considerable trouble was experienced securing a suitable market. The agent in Wellington was tried but proved unsatisfactory. Consignments were also sent to a wholesale firm, without satisfactory r-sults. Arrangements were then made with a Wellington grocer to handle our supply, and the arrangement has proved quite satisfactory. The momh Mship has steadily increased; at present there arc twenty-five supplying members as well as several honorary members. The Oclo has handled, since April 28, 1911. 13.727 dwn eg™, the total receipts for which were COW lis lid. The highci-t price received was 2s 2d pc- do/.e:i. the lowest lOd per dozen. With tie- exception of perhaps once or twice the Circle has obtained a better price for its momhors than they enulrl have otherwise obtained. Considerable saving has been offectod in food supplies, one local firm hnvinrr agreed to supply members at a reduced rate. During the year we obtained n supply of chick raiser for members at a reduction of G2 per ton. The purchase of crates has proved remunerative—£3 13s wa,s expended. The small charge levied for use of eratos has already returned CI Is Dd. Your committee arranged for the use of a depot, for f}\o receivino: of otts and storage of empty crate-. Quito a number of members have been delivering their eggs nt the depot for some time past. Mr Hall has given notice that he will be unable to continue coPortine; the orrrrrc. J{. will therefore he necessary to appoint another collector, or. as an .alternative, have n ll ol rnr : dolVcrod at the depot. Tn Aivil last Mr H. C. •Tones resigned the =e"retaryshin. Mr T. B. Hall beimr appointor! fo the vacancv. Mr B. A. Ma-donald. who has acted as treasure- from the inception of flv Circle. •■e.si.nicd from that position in November, and the office of an-"! treasury was then combined, the ?orr"hvv undertaking the duties „r 1, ,f],_ The thnnks of members ere flap rn ~\f r Mncdonald for tlie manner iV which he has worked fo- tf'f goad of th" Circle. Your committee has endoavoured fo work with as little expense as possible, and pay on; the highest possible price each week, only actual expenses being deducted. Those members who deliver their eggs at the depot have received within Wl of Wellington price. There is' no doubt that if members will hold together they will find the Circle a great benefit, not only by receiving a better price for their eggs, but also by obtaining their supplies of poultry food at a reduce,] r ato".

Tn discussing the report. Mr Bower said he would like to make acknowledgment of the great assistance given to-tho circle by Mr T. I!. Hall and Mr R. ,\. McDonald during the early and most troublous times of fch cCirele. As collector. Mr Hall had rendered very great service, and had been at a loss for the society's benefit.

Mr Leger bore testimony to the same effect. Hemmoved'"Titmt a vote of thanks be passed to McDonald and Hall for their selfsacrificing endeavour* for benefit of the soeietv.

Mr Con. Strid seconded the motion, which was carried with applause.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr Leger was unanimously reelected chairman of the Circle, and testimony was borne to his effort* to make the society a success when its future was looking dubious. It was at personal low that he had helped it forward, and without his egg supply success would .have been impossible. Mr Hall was unanimously re-elect-ed secretary and treasurer. The following committee was elec-ted:-Messrs Bower, Wilson, Watkins, Brown, McDonald. Mr Blumridgo was appointed auditor. At the conclusion of the routine business Mr IT. Leger read a wellreasoned and at times Humorous paper eulogistic of the white Leghorn as an egg-producer. The fuli text of the paper will be printed in tomorrow's issue of The Chronicle.
