Road railway station between Te Awanntu atul Ohanpo. resulting in the almost instantaneous deatSh of Mr Jack Burke. a yon rig and highly respected scttloi residing at Kiokio. a. few miles from To Awamntii. Deceased was returning home by train from Ohanpo cattle sale and was breaking his journey at Lake Read station. Before the train had fully pnllod np, th" deceased .jumped on to tin- platform and was thrown under the carriage, his body Wing al'rtcsfc severed near the fhigjhs. The victim, who was married about eighteen months ago. leaves a wifr> rmd n child two mo;r':V old. His lelatircs are well-known I in the Taranaki district.
