Mormons in Germany
By the sudden intrusion of the arm of the law a premature end. was put on the evening of July 22 to an attempt to popularise Mormonism in the German capital. A community of Latter 'Day Saints has existed in Berlin since 1823, but the tolerance extended to it lias been of the same grudging type as that which all 'but excludes American agricultural t produce from the German frontiers, and its progress has not been very hopeful. So' Mr M'Kay, head of the Mormon Church in Central decided to undertake a proselytising mission from his headquarters at Zurich, and on July 22 descended on Berlin with a band of twenty apostles. The sect iholds its services in a largo room hidden away 'behind a group of workshops m the manufacturing district of tlu east end. This chamber is hung with religious pictures, portraits of Joseph Smith, and photographs of the templo at Salt Lake City. On tho day mentioned a few wreaths and bouquets of flowers had been added to give the place a festal appearance. The congregation which had assembled numbered about 15(, men and 250 women and girls.
