Dr. Cook's Keys.
AMUSING SEQUEL TO RECEP-
TION IN NEW YORK,
The Municipality of .New York is threatened with a lawsuit which makes an amusing sequel to the triumphal reception of Dr Cook last year on his 1, return from Europe "and the North Pole." The official welcome extended to bim included the presentation of an illuminated address and keys conferring upon him the freedom of New York; but it now transpires that tho address and keys have not yet been paid for' The l)ill amounts to nearly £70, and sinco the exposure and disappearance of Dr Cook, now styled "Tho Brooklyn Traveller," none of the Aldermen have ibeen able to muster up sufficient courage to recommend that the Council should pay this amount out of the public funds. The designers are now pressing for payment, and threaten to institute legal proceedings for therecovery ol the debt, but it seems probable that the Aldermen will pay the bill oub of their ow-n pockets rather than lay themselves open to further ridicule.
