Hailstorm.—A very heavy fall of hail took place yesterday, afternoon, some of the stones being as large as good-sized peas.
The English Mails via Suez and Panama came to hand last evening by thes.s. Ahuriri, which steamer leaves for Auckland this evening at half-past nine o’clock.
The office of Defence Minister lias been abolished, and it is now thought that Col. Haultain will he called to the Legislative Council— a course which, if adopted, will no doubt afford satisfaction to the gallant colonel’s constituents.
