VISIT TO THE FLEET
Wild Weather for the King’s Inspection DINNER ON ROYAL YACHT (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 13, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 12. Driving over flooded roads in torrential rain, His Majesty the King reached Portland Harbour to inspect the home fleet. Mountainous seas during the night obliged some of the ships to anchor in Weymouth Bay for fear of collision, and hundreds of sailors and officers were unable to rejoin their vessels before His Majesty’s arrival. The sun broke through as the King inspected the Guard of Honour and entered the Royal barge, which sailed down the line of battleships and cruisers, all of which were dressed at the masthead. The King boarded and chatted with the commanders of the Nelson, Orion, Courageous, Royal Oak and Cairo. He then went ashore and inspected, at the anti-submarine school, the latest secret devices for combatting submarines, with which he expressed satisfaction. He subsequently had dinner with admirals and officers on the Royal yacht.
