INTER-HOUSE SPORTS
Rain Interrupts Napier Contest
Marching with a precision that spoke volumes for the intensive training they had undergone, 10 teams from Napier commercial firms took place in an interhouse competition last night. Following the initial formation of the march on the Marine Parade, teams marched to McLean Park headed by the Napier Citizens’ and the Technical College Memorial Banjls. There, in the presence of 3000 spectators, they gave a demonstration of marching and physical drill that earned well-merited applause. It was very unfortunate that a heavy fall of rain interrupted the display at the end\ of tho physical drill competition. Each team paraded in a distinctive uniform in which neatness and colour were carefully blended to achieve a most striking effect. They were to have been judged on uniform, marching, physical drill, overhead ball, underhand ball, over and under ball, tug-of-war, a relay race, 80 yards race and a three-legged race, wit! a possible score of 300 points. Those in the competition were:— Bcstall’s, Blythe’s, Briasco’s, Gamages, Harris Cap Factory, McGruer’s, McKenzie’s, Plowman’s, Snaddon’s and Woolworth ’s. When the rain showed no signs of abating, it was decided’by the officials that the display should bo postponed until to-morrow, when dmission will be free. It is expected, however, that the evening’s takings will result in a substantial amount for the fund which is being raise.', to build a fitting fence on McLean park in place of the one which at present stands there. ~~
