’ Detective A. Reid returned to Web lington to-day after four months of relieving duty in Hawke’s Bay.

Mr. W. Rainbow left Hastings this morning for Wellington, en route for England.

Mr. J. Sharpley, of the Department of Agriculture, who has been spending his annual leave with his parents in Hastings, returned to Wanganui this morning.

Dr. D. W. Gutbrie, son of Mr. H. D. Guthrie, Herne Bay, Auckland, and Dr. Alan Douglas, son of Mr. C. Douglas, Napier, have qualified for the first section of the examination for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, London, according to cable advice received in New Zealand.

Mr. Hubert Kessels, who was attached for several years to the staff of the German Legation at Dublin, has been appointed by the Foreign Office at Berlin secretary to the new German Consulate at Wellington. Mr. Kessels and his family are expected to arrive in New Zealand about the middle of December.
