IMPERIAL IDEALS
Chamberlain Centenary LONDON, June 16. The Dukes of Bedford, Buccleuch, Portland, Sutherland and Westminster, and Lords Londonderry, Bledisloe and Hirst are associated with an appeal to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Mr Joseph Chamberlain on July 8, when a meeting at the Albert Hall will inaugurate a memorial fund to enable a sustained campaign throughout rhe country in support of Imperial ideals and the need of increasing the Empire's co-operation in trade, migration, defence and foreign policy, for which they are seeking the co operation of leaders of industry and agriculture at Home and overseas, also all realising that Imperial strength and nnity are essential. Joseph Chamberlain, father of Str Auster, and Mt Neville Chamberlain, was born in 1!36 and died in 1914. He was Colonial Secretary from 1895 to 1903, bis term of office covering the Boor War period. He then retired in order to ed’-ocate an Imperial preferential tariff.
