PORANGAHAU CUT OFF
Central H.B. Conditions Following continued rain and wind for the last 24 hours, all communications with Porangahau have been severed. The Wanstead road was flooded to a depth of some feet about a mile on the Porangahau side of the Wanstead Hotel and motor traffic was unable to reach Waipukurau. The Mangaorapa road was also blocked by a slip near Giblin’s. Telephones between Waipukurau and Porangahau districts were still out of commission at mid-day. In Waipukurau itself the Tuki Tuai is running about two or three feet above normal and a good deal of surface water is still lying about. A number of power lines were brought down by the heavy gale, but were being restored this morning by the Power Board staff.
