LOWER-PRICED CARS

Herd-Testing Officers Motor-cars at lower rates are desired by the West Coast Herd-Testing Association. which submitted a remit to the annual general meeting of the Dominion Group Herd-Testing Federation yesterday urging that the federation endeavotn to contract with motor firms tor the supply oi cars to testing officers at a lower rate than now prevailing. A motion in terms of this remit was lost, however, the president, Air G. B Herron, pointing out that the mam difficulty in the way of getting cars at lower prices was the fact that no standard make of car was adopted by the federation. "If we did use a standard type ol car, the idea might be workable,” he said, “but 1 doubt whether we could accomplish much while so many different types of vehicles are used by our officers. The car firms wouldn’t be very keen.” The secretary Mr C Al. Hume, reported that he had approached car firms about a reduction in the price of cars, but he had not met with much success. Air M. Wallace (West Coast), who ■sponsored the remit, pointed out that the federation controlled dairying throughout the whole of New Zealand and that its officers used cars extensively. For that reason, he said, his association felt that it might be possible to buy cars at lower rates.
