SUCCESSFUL CANVASS

Sale of Stamps A house-to-house canvass as well as a drive among the business houses of Napier was conducted yesterday under the guidance of Mr F. A. Hetley for the sale of Anzac stamps, and the result was highly satisfactory, Mr Hetley said last night that in all probability the amount collected would approximate £2OO. Stamps were bought readily yesterday, and the public response in all parts of the borough was excellent. Purchasers realise that not only do these stamps constitute a welcome addition to their collections of stamps, With the probable increase in value as the years pass, but half of the cost of these stamps is devoted towards the relief of distress among returned soldiers. Anzac stamps will be withdrawn from sale on June 20. For this reason a number of Napier women have made it their duty to serve at a desk especially set aside for them in the Post Office. Their self-imposed duty has been well rewarded, and the Napier branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association is very sanguine about the result of this effort to raise funds.
