MOTORISTS ’ CAMP

Closed lor Winter Months PATRONAGE VERY LIMITED Reporting on the attendances al the motorists’ camp site at Windsor Park during Hie winter, the Superintendent of Reserves, Air J. G. C. Alackenzie, informed the Hastings Borough Council last evening that the average takings at the camp during the months of Alay to October, over the past four years, amounted to £!) 15/-, and the average number of parlies in camp was 52. He added that in 1934, fifteen parties stayed over three nights and 46 for one night. The following year .12 parties stayed over three nights and four for one night. The reserves committee recommended that the camp be closed until the end of August, the position to be reviewed at that date, and that notice to this effect .be put up at the park, and that the necessary notice be given to the camp warden. This was adopted, the Alayor (Air G. A. Aladdison) stating that it was found that itinerant traders were mainly the people who desired to use the park ia the winter months.

The matter of the supply of hot water, with particular reference to the consumption of wood for the furnace, was the subject of a further report from the superintendent, who said that wood had been used at various times, for heating water at the motor camp, but it had not proved satisfactory. The present system, even when water was heated with a coal and coke mixture, cannot meet the demand for hot water at holiday periods. Other disadvantages of wood were the lack of facilities for storage of a supply and the! need for constant attendance, whereas a coal and coke fire can be banked up and left for a time. Wood cun be used with advantage for burning wit], coa. and coke if facilities for its storage are provided. The report was received.
