Matters of Interest from Council Meeting MANY SUBJECTS RAISED The monthly meeting of the Hastings Borough Council was held last evening, His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. A. Maddison) presiding over Crs. P. M. Cohr, P. E. Loach, T. Falconer, 8. J. McKee, 8. Ashcroft and G. W. B. McCormick. • • • The county borough of Hastings (Eng.) advised that the senior flag from Hastings, New Zealand, had been won by the Hastings Boys’ Central School, with a percentage of 96.3, and the junior flag by All Saints’ Junior Mixed School with a percentage of 94.5. The Borough Banger (Mr J. Hall) reported impounding two head of wandering stock during the month. A proposed design for the Mayoral chain was submitted by Mr B. AL Kessell and approved as being very satisfactory.

The theft of one Phoenix canariensis palm from the Bailway road reserve was reported by the Superintendent of Beserves (Mr J. G. C. Mackenzie).

The Inspectors’ Department issued 34 licences, apart from building and motor drivers, last month.

Following consideration of cemetery fees charged by a number of towns it wae decided to increase by 10/- the cost of plots at the Hastings cemeterv.
