ROYAL SHOW VENUE

Hawke’s Bay Views on Change NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN The opinion that the Royal A. and P. Society of New Zealand has not the power to adopt the Canterbury suggestion to. fix only two permanent venues fur' Royal .Shows, and in any ease would not he willing to do so, was expressed by speakers at this morning’s meeting of tho Hawke’s Bay A. ami P. Society Committee, over wlrieh Mr, J. H. Maeniven presided.

Tho matter was first mentioned by Mr. R, 11. Tod, who said ho thought that tho society should oppose the suggested alteration. Ho did not believe in the Royal Society, but, if it must exist, then it should distribute its shows and let all the societies have a share. The delegates of the Royal Society should bo instructed accordingly.

Mr. Maeniven said that the suggestion came from Christchurch only, and he did not think it would get any further. In his opinion, the Royal Society itself would not agree. When Royal Shows were started they were meant to go round, and if the system were altered, it would mean the end of the Royal Society. Mr. L. Maclean said that the Royal Society, according to its constitution, could not make tho change, and ho did not think there was any chance of the adoption of the proposal. Mr. Maeniven dosed tho discussion by remarking that the change must como from tho Royal Society, which ho believed would not dare to adopt it.
