PARKVALE SCHOOL
Meeting of Committee The, monthly meeting of the Parkvale Schoo! Committee was held last evening, Mr. J, Stickland presiding over Messrs. H. Spence, K. J. Davidson, C. H. Jennings, S. W. Baker, H. Cameron (hon, Sec.), and W. B. Roe (Headmaster). The headmaster reported that present roll was 397 and the percentage of attendance last week was 96, which was very good indeed. Great credit was due to the caretaker for the way in which the grounds were cleared of leaves and it was indeed pleasing to come back to a school so neat and tidy. During the holidays all locks were attended to by the Education board. A small supply of garden lime and a dozen flowering gums were needed in the garden. For three days last leek Nurse McLean was in attendance conducting a preliminary examination of all pupils in preparation lor the visit of Dr. Anderson, the medical officer, who will visit the school later this month. All school games were now in full swing and tho pupils and teachers were entering whole-heartedly into the spirit of the sport. Miss Mayo took up duties on the staff as substitute assistant. The question of tho supply of school materials was discussed and it was decided to appoint a deputation from the committee to wait upon Mr. E. L. Cullen, M.P., with a view to making representations for the free supply to schools of such materials as inks, paper, chalks and other items. The Hawke’s Bay Education Board wrote drawing attention to the biennial election of ward members to be held on July 15 and asking the school to nominate a member for the Hastings urban area. It was decided to nominate the retiring member, Mr. G. A. Maddison
