WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED
Finding of Jobs by Local Bodies MR. BROMLEY’S MISSION Tho matter of local bodies, and in particular the Hastings Borough Council, providing work for relief labourers will be discussed by His Worship the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, and Mr W. Bromley, advisory officer to the Minister of Employment, and formerly deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board, at a special conference to be held to-morrow. 1 Mr Bromley is at present touring the Dominion with a view to seeking the co-operation and assistance of local bodies in the matter of providing works for tho unemployed, and outlining the policy of the new Government in regard to this pressing matter, fie - is expected to be in Hawke’s Bay to-day and Mr Maddison has been advised that Mr Bromley will be meeting him some time to-morrow, no definite time having been set as yet. The visit of Mr Bromley has been expected for some time now and it is understood that the results of tho conference may have a very material effect in the matter of the preparation of the estimates of borough works for the now current year. The question of setting down a date for the members of the council to consider the framing of the estimates will probably be discussed at the monthly meeting of life council next Thursday evening.
