HASTINGS TRACK NOTES

Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club THURSDAY’S PREPARATION There was only an average morning’s entertainment this morning for the final gallops for the Hawke’s Bay steeplechase meeting, which will be held on the Hastings racecourse this Thursday and Saturday. Where not mentioned the undermentioned gallops took place ou the inside No. 1 grass. The heavy frost was responsible for the slow times recorded in comparison to Saturday, as well as preventing one or two horses from being schooled. Count Sicgried (I‘. Atkins) and a Psychology gelding (11. Callahan) sprinted half a mile in 52secs. with the former doing if, the better. On the plough, Caen (A. Griffiths) and Journet (E. Deslandes), after working twice round at half pace, brushed homo the last four furlongs against the bit in 55. Hunting Jay (J. Odten) was not out to make time, being restricted to a working gallop over three-quarters of a mile, which took 1.24. Quake (P. Atkins) and his stable companion Glidealong (H. Murray) were associated over five furlongs to run 64 j, with Quake, going the better. He finished pleasingly. Tidal Song (J. Forsyth) shaded Tractile (B. Stowe) over the same distance in 63J. Tidal Song went very well and the best for some time to draw attention to her chances in the Maiden Plate on Thursday. Hunting Star (P. Atkins), alone on the plough, had an easy half mile in 53j. Bothwell (W. Gomm) was going very easy to finish with Cotsfield (J. Clements) once round on the plough in 1.47. Cotsfield was to have jumped the country on the course proper, but the frost was much too heavy, so he was galloped instead. First Chapter (J. Forsyth) was defeated by Begorrah (W. McNaughton) over five furlongs in 66, but the former was oiii i playing fun. On the plough, Iddod (Mr. B. Symes) did very well to register 1.20 for six furlongs, as he was carrying over ten stone. Blygain (J. Dooley) was a little too good lor Trailer (R. Marsh) over five iurlongs in 65. Blygain appears to be a better mare now than ever previously. Gironde (R. Marsh) put daylight between. himself and Pakai-O-Turi (H. Young) over the last two of four furlongs run in 53. Blue Garlet* (I*. Atkins), Passiou Flower (H. Callahan) and Lavina (R. Marsh) were sent out to gallop five furlongs, but the start was not an even one, with Passion Flower getting the best of it by two lengths over Blue Garter, while Lavina was left by a further three lengths. At the finish Blue Gaiter and Passion Flower fought the issue out to finish two lengths in front of Lavina in 63), which, for the plough, was fair. Master Cyklon i.B. Stowe) and Joviality (H. Murray) was well clear of Agog (J. Forsyth) over five furlongs in 63d, but the latter was left at the post by a few lengths and, with the other pair having a pull in the weights, failed at any part to get close to his companions. Kaokaoroa (S. McNaughton) ran the last six furlongs of twice round the plough iu 1.30. Sunny Blondo (B. Stowe) was by no means extended when running half a mile in 52. Glenrossie (Hepburn) showed a big improvement on recent gallops when finishing ahead of Tudor Ench (Glenn) over six furlongs in 1.20. On the plough Mon Ace took 54 to do five iurlongs. In a solid working ,-allop Monarchy (Mr. Dawson) and The Grasper (Mr. G. G. Beatson.) did the last five furlongs in 68 J. THE J VMPERB. Spichoug (E. Dcslandes) was brought down yesterday morning to bo schooled over a few hurdles, but was very disappointing, altliougli maybe his rider was not wishing to show him up, as he never let his head go excepting at the last fence, when he jumped lyEmotion (R. Miles) and Morning Quest (it'. Dunn), considering that the going was a little on the greasy side alter the frost, jumped well to run once round over the six hurdles in 1.434. Beau Star (W. Horn*) gave a big improvement in his fencing over a round of the country, but no doubt the change ot horseman was directly responsible. Blue Boy (Wright) was given a solid schooling lesson over no less thau eleven hurdles, or two rounds of the Hastings schooling track. He finished like a train, indicating that he would nave done another two rounds as well. Considering All. Wright has only had him a short time, this gelding does him credit. Monarchy (Mr. J. Dawson) jumped like an old hand iu a round over the country in 1.43.
