A letter was received from the Taurdnga County Council relative, to the possible alterations in the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and asking for the council’s support in pressing for exemption of council employees. The chairman pointed out that if drivers and labourers wore to come under separate awards it would make it very awkward for councils, as It would not be possible to interchange men during work. Counties could not arrange the work in such a way as to keep their drivers fully employed the same as the Public Works Department. The council decided to support the request, and to write to the Counties’ Association on the subject.
