Poukawa School
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have been waiting for someone in these columns to refute the statement made by **A Maori* ’ in reference to the I’oukawa School, but us no-one has done so I have decided to. First let me say 1 am not a member of the Peukuwa School Committee. “A Maori” states that the land was given by Mr Tomoana. Well, I can name four or five of the men who subscribed the £126 with which the land was originally purchased. This is only one aspect of the question, but 1 will content myself with contradicting the omission to acknowledge the generosity of these men. “A Maori” says that the land was given; it certanly was—after the good round sum of £126 for three acres of land had been paid over.—Yours, etc., “A PAKEHA.” Hastings, June 5, 1936.
