TRY WITH WRONG BALL

Two Balls in Play at Once

AMUSING INCIDENT

An incident which referees and oldtimers present described as unprecedented in their experience occurred dur ing the Rugby match between Hastings H. 5.0.8. and M.A.C. in Hastings on Saturday.

The two teams were down in a scrum. Just as the ball was coming out the ball from the adjoining ground landed at the feet of some of the men in the scrum. Several people watching from the side-line are positive in asserting that the ball used in the ensuing scoring movement, when Solomon got a try for M.A.C., was the ball from the next ground. Others, however, including the referee, believe that M.A.C. scored with the proper ball. But the comical part of the situation was that the second ball was taken into play by four Old Boys and three members of the M.A.C. team, who took it almost to the goal before they realised that the remaining 23 players were busy down at the other end of the field.

At half-time there was an interesting side-line discussion on the possible decisions that might arise from such a situation.
