Analyst’s Tests With Veronal (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 8. When the Mateo trial entered the second week this morning, Norman Ralph Blomfield company secretary, who ran the business side of the “Duchess of Dantzig” production, said that signs of drinking increased in the Miireu home while ho knew them. He never saw Mrs. Marco drinking to excess, but M reo was a pretty heavy drinkei at times Mareo telephoned witness half an hour after his wife’s death, and in reply to a question said the cause was the appendix, adding: “Foolish girl, if she had it out when 1 wanted she would have been alive yet.” A Government analyst, Kenneth Massey Griffin, described various tests carried out on organs and exhibits handed to him by the police. He gave tho quantities of veronal which were found present. His tests showed that six five-graip geronal tablets—3o grains—could be dissolved in half a cup of milk, lie tasted the solution and it wu.s like soda.
