The Aucklaud Racing Club’s Great Northern meeting concluded at Ellerslie to-day in fine weather. The track was in excellent condition. There was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £49,224, against £35,362 10/- on the last day last year, au increase of £13,861 10/-. Royal Appellant went to the front early, and the order along the back was: Pakanui, Royal Appellant, liereatu, Onewhetu aud Coronis. At the home turn Pakanui was still in the Jena but Royal Appellant challenged strongly to win from Onewhetu, with Scotland a head away third and Pakanui fourth. Time, 1.37. WINTER STEEPLECHASE. Thespis was first out, followed by Golden England, Spalpiko, Uuitnli, Dark Princess, Valpeen and Irish Comet. After two miles Thespis still hau the lead several lengths ahead of Spalpiko, Valpeen, Irish Comet, Umtali and Golden England. At the sec.ond-to-lnst fence Thespis nearly fell and Forest Glow came fast from the rear to win by three lengths from Irish Comet, with Thespis three-quarters of a length back third and Unitali fourth. The adjourned inquiry into the falling of Vahnint, Whirling and Haw thorn in the Ranfurly Handicap on the second day was concluded to-day, the judicial committee deciding that, the mishan was accidental and caused by Vnlinint running on to the heels of horse in front, no blame being attach 1 able 'to anyone.
